Christine McLaren

I am a psychodynamic therapist working with adults in my private practice. My consulting room is in central Cheltenham. I am a registered member of the BACP and BPC and work to their strict codes of ethics. I work both with adults and young people over the age of sixteen.

Psychodynamic Therapy

I mostly work face to face with individuals. Our work together would usually be long term. Each session lasts for 50 minutes and the frequency is something we work out together. My training is psychodynamic, which is rooted in modern psychoanalysis. All good therapy works when there is a strong, boundaried relationship based on trust. Psychodynamic and analytic therapy explores in depth how long-buried experiences, feelings and early relationships can affect how we deal with the present day through the relationship we develop together. I encourage exploration of dreams in my practice as a way of understanding unconscious processes. This (sometimes challenging) experience can potentially lead to a new approach to life, with new perspectives on the past and present, a richer sense of self and autonomy, and a greater capacity for relationships.
